sulfoMETӔ

Eco-efficient extraction of critical metals from sulfur ores by dry procedure

The objective of the sulfoMETӔ was the development of selective metallurgical process of complex metal ores with high content on sulfides by using electromagnetic energy. The patented technology and procedures developed allow the efficient and sustainable metallurgic processing of complex sulfide ores due to i) minimizing the carbon footprint with the electrification, ii) reducing SOx emissions to the atmosphere, iii) accelerating the phase transformations and the selective treatment, as well as iv) separation of complex ores with transformation into valuable intermediate phases.

The project, developed during the period 2017-2021, with a global budget of €492,458.97, was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN) under the call RETOS COLABORACION and with loan to CEINNMAT. The objective of this call is to support the collaboration between companies and research organisms with the aim of developing new technologies and to contribute to the creation of new products and services. Partners in the project were CEINNMAT as coordinator, extractive metallurgy and prototyping, and the microwave division (DIMAS) of the research institute ITACA of the UPV.
